Simbavati Hilltop Lodge is a 5- star game lodge located in the 53 000-hectare world renowned Timbavati Private Game Reserve which shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park and huge herds of buffalo and elephant often frequent in the area. However, Timbavati Private Game Reserve is famous for its big cats and particularly the “white lions”, an extremely rare mutation only found naturally in the Timbavati. Less lodges and vehicles than other reserves which means a more exclusive and intimate bush experience. Currently over 40 mammal species are listed as residents in the Timbavati, including the Big 5 with great leopard sightings, as well as endangered species including wild dogs and cheetah. There is an abundance of bird life, with a total of 360 species of bird listed.
The Simbavati Hilltop Lodge boasts magnificent views of the enchanting bush, the Nhlaralumi River and the distant foothills of the Drakensberg Mountain Range from the vantage point of the beautiful small koppie on which the lodge is situated.
Accommodation is pure African safari and comprises of individual pavilion-style luxury 8 tents, arranged to create a unique village feel for a tranquil and intimate stay.

Day 1 Johannesburg – Simbavati Hilltop Lodge
Journeying from OR Tambo International Airport board on a domestic flight to Eastgate Airport.
On arrival you will be welcome by the lodge’s team and driven to the lodge. Enjoy a refreshing welcome drink while completing the check in procedures. Later enjoy lunch and unwind before your first bush adventure.
Around 15h00 gather with fellow guests and for a decadent high tea during which you will be introduced to your ranger who will advise the “do” and “do not” during the game drive. After briefing Board on the lodge 4 x 4 Open Landcruiser before setting off on your first afternoon game drive in search for the big 5. Game drives inside Private Reserves are usually amazing because the area is not overcrowded but also because rangers can go off road whenever necessary to get closer to predator sightings, hence creating good photography opportunities.
While on Game Drive, you will stop for Sundowners at a magnificent location and toast the splendour of Africa as you watch the sun set. As darkness falls, nocturnal animals of the bush get excited as they celebrate “” their dawn “and come out. Your skilled tracker will scan the landscape using a spotlight, which illuminates animals’ eyes. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive back to the lodge.
There is time to freshen up and get ready for dinner served in the Boma around a big African fire (weather permitting) with the sounds of the crackling fire and night noises discussing the afternoon sightings as well as tomorrow’s plans with your ranger.
Day 2 – 3 Simbavati Hilltop Lodge
The day begins early with tea or coffee with muffins, rusks and fruit before departing on the Game Drive which will take approximately 3-4 hours. The cooler morning temperatures mean that the game in the reserve is often more active, and the softer light makes for great images.
Your Ranger has an intimate knowledge of the game reserve, which contributes a great deal towards brilliant sightings.
Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast, after which you will have time to relax by the pool and dip into a good book or enjoy the rest of the lodge’s facilities.
Lunch is served between 1-2 pm and it is time for a little siesta. Around 15h00 gather with fellow guests for a decadent high tea in preparation for your afternoon game drive during which your experienced guide will check your wildlife Wishlist to find out what hasn’t been ticked yet, but you may also be lucky that by your second game drive your wildlife expectations have already been met and even exceeded. Enjoy your afternoon game drive with stop for Sundowner to stretch your legs and witness the African sun set.
Back again at the lodge after yet another exhilarating afternoon of unforgettable bush experience. Get ready for dinner served under the stars and it is now time to share tales around the Bush fire and make new friends.
Day 4 Goodbye Simbavati Hilltop Lodge
After a final early morning game drive followed by a hearty breakfast, it is time to bid farewell to the African bush as your 4 – Day safari bush experience comes to an end. There will be time to purchase some memorabilia from the lodge curio shop before being transferred back to Eastgate Airport for your flight back to Johannesburg.
