Day 1- 4 Johannesburg to Sabi Sand Game Reserve

From Johannesburg International Airport, board on a short flight to Skukuza Airport where you will be met by the lodge’s team and transferred to Sabi Sabi Little Bush Camp, a small and intimate gem in the heart of The Sabi Sands Game Reserve renowned for its prolific wildlife including the Big 5 and famous for its incredible leopard sightings.

“The Sabi Sands Game Reserve is the most prestigious game reserve in South Africa and is renowned for some of the best Big Five game safaris in the world. With no fences between the private game reserves and the Kruger Park, animals wander across vast stretches of grazing land as they did years and years ago. With one of the richest game populations in the country, the chances of seeing the Big Five: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino on game drives are excellent. You are almost guaranteed with sightings of the Big Five and the reserve is famous for incredible leopard sightings.

Sabi Sabi Little Bush Camp nestles under the shade of indigenous riverine trees on the banks of the Msuthlu River overlooking the riverbed. The Camp offers six free-standing thatched luxury suites  and with contemporary African design at the core, each suite includes luxury furnishings, a full en-suite bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower, romantically draped mosquito nets over large beds, air-conditioning, fans, minibar, tea and coffee facilities and a private viewing deck with a heated spa bath overlooking the riverbed, a vantage point from which to relax and watch the bushveld and abundant wildlife. The perfect combination of comfort and luxury in the heart of Big 5 territory

Guests visiting Sabi Sabi Little Bush Camp will enjoy early dawn and dusk/evening 4 x 4 game drives as well as and mid-morning environmental awareness walks accompanied by experienced field guides and Shangaan trackers. Game drives inside Private Reserves are usually amazing because the area is not overcrowded but also because rangers can go off road whenever necessary to get closer to predator sightings, hence creating good photography opportunities.

In between the game drives, guests are encouraged to go on mid-morning environmental awareness walks to experience the fauna and flora on foot. Led by an armed ranger and tracker, they provide fascinating insight into the geology and botany of the area. Trackers who have grown up in local villages impart a wealth of information on the uses of bushveld trees and plants in tribal customs and rituals, as well as their herbal and medicinal properties and practical applications. A peeled twig from one tree, for instance, makes a good toothbrush while the silky leaves of another provide the softest toilet paper.

Other alternatives during the mid-morning is to relax in the comfort of your own suite or to indulge in a decadent African Royal Romance spa treatment which will leave you feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated.

Lunch is served at 14h00 with the Safari departing later in the afternoon.

Enjoy your afternoon game drive with stop for Sundowners to stretch your legs while marvelling at the splendour of an African sunset, and the absolute tranquillity of the bush.

As darkness falls, nocturnal animals of the bush get excited as they celebrate “” their dawn “and come out. The skilled tracker will scan the landscape using a spotlight, which illuminates animals’ eyes. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive back to the lodge. Arrival is at the lodge is usually around 7pm, allowing time to freshen up before enjoying a sumptuous dinner.

Dinner is served under the stars (weather permitting) and combines African and Western cuisine.

Time to discuss about the afternoon highlights around the open fire and plan for the next day with your ranger.
