Game drives into the Ngorongoro Crater are a big highlight! Early starts- where you will be woken by a hot cup of tea or coffee- are recommended so that you can enjoy the crater before it gets too busy. Head off for a full day game drive on the crater floor with a picnic lunch. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. With a bit of luck, the ‘Big Five’ can be spotted during one game drive only.

Entamanu also offers guided walks around the rim of the crater and in the surrounding highlands, guided by a local Maasai to explain the way of life, the role of medicinal plants and Maasai beliefs. These walks need to be pre-booked but are perfect for a slower pace activity.

Please note: As the Serengeti is such a vast location and different seasons are optimal in different areas, the travel date determines the camps and lodges utilised. Accommodation is at The Serengeti National Park, meaning “endless plains” in the Masai language, is undoubtedly one of the world’s most celebrated Wilderness areas and is an ongoing source of inspiration to writers, filmmakers and photographers.

Your stay in the Serengeti National Park will probably be the highlight of your entire safari

Day 9 – 15 Zanzibar

After the excitement of seeing lions, elephants and all the different wild animals on game drives and wilderness walks, and nights of hearing the cacophony of nocturnal life of the bush, there’s nothing better than being welcomed into this tranquil of a beach retreat.

After your last morning game drive followed by a hearty breakfast you will transferred to Seronera airstrip to connect with your flight to Zanzibar via Dar es salaam.

Shooting Star Lodge is a small intimate accommodation beautifully located at the northern end of Kiwengwa Beach, northeast Zanzibar, well away from other resorts. It is a great contrast to some of the larger resorts that are now populating the beaches around it. Because of its location and size the hotel allows a real break and remoteness which makes it a very peaceful place to relax. This is the perfect excuse to kick off your shoes, take off your watch and gear down to the slow pace of island life: swim, snorkel, laze in the sunshine or set sail on a sunset dhow cruise. When the mood takes you there are richly coloured coral reefs waiting to be explored on scuba diving trips, and the clear waters are world-renowned for big game fishing.

If history is your fort, organize Stone town visit (our consultants are available to assist or you can book directly with the lodge) to discover the unique mixture of Arab, Persian, Indian and European influences on a private tour of Stone Town and its main sights. Visit a real spice farm where you can see, taste and smell the freshest products before savouring lunch at a local restaurant.
