Project Description

This safari combines four Southern Africa highlights and you are free to swap the order of destinations around, change the duration and choose accommodation according to your budget and wish-list. However, we recommend starting in Cape Town because with its legendary landscapes, the city is brimming with culture, art, and culinary delights. To discover “The Mother City” we will be taking in the breath-taking Cape Peninsula, exploring the fabulous Kirstenbosch botanical gardens, and watching Africa’s rare penguins waddle along the beach. From there, we move up to Botswana known for its stunning, unspoilt natural habitat, incredible wildlife and luxurious safari lodges. Then tailor your safari with Belmond’s exceptional Botswana lodges and camps. Spend time in the Okavango Delta in the Khwai concession, overlooking the floodplains of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve and explore the mesmerising UNESCO wetlands. Belmond Eagle Island offers a variety of water-focused safari activities including motorboat safaris, barge cruises, mokoro safaris (traditional canoe), fishing, as well as walking safaris and the ultimate air safari experience by helicopter (optional). And if you still fancy viewing landscapes from above then travel further up to the magnificent Victoria Falls to experience a jaw-dropping bird’s-eye-view of the Falls from a scenic helicopter flight and for the more adventurous at heart, partake in some adrenalin activities. Round off this journey with a stay on the edge of the Zambezi River at Zambezi Grande in Zambia where your every wish, want and need will be taken care of. Enjoy being pampered by lodge’s staff passionate about their job.

Here visitors can see and experience a variety of the Okavango Delta’s flora and fauna. This is truly one of the Delta’s most pristine locations. The area offers prolific birdlife and mammal sightings. It is also the site of one of the most romantic bars in the world, the Fish Eagle Bar, as quoted by The New York Times. High-ceilinged tented rooms flood with light; each has a plunge pool and oversized bed with views of the Delta. Get closer to the wildlife of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the region on 4 x 4 game drives, by local traditional mokoro canoe or motorboat excursions depending on the season – roam on foot or take to the air in an exhilarating helicopter flight overlooking the magnificent Botswana landscape. A wonderful secluded retreat, Belmond Eagle Island Lodge offers a safari vacation that brings together the excitement of discovery and an experience of the true essence of an African safari.

Day 8-9 Okavango Delta – Kasane – Victoria Falls

You may decide this morning to experience the remoteness of the Okavango Delta and get a bird’s eye view of the inaccessible lakes and islands with a scenic helicopter flight over the Okavango Delta

Your pilot’s voice is coming through on the headset. “Look to the right where a herd of buffalos is crossing the river. We’re going down for a close-up view.” Next, you’re soaring up again. “We’re heading to a higher altitude. See the formation of the channels and the way in which the water and land mass has evolved over centuries.”

Back at the lodge after that thrilling, spectacular adventure, seat for scrumptious breakfast before

being transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled light air transfer to Kasane Airport.

You will be met on arrival and be welcomed by our representative and transfer to Victoria Falls which constitutes one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world. Day 10 – 13 Victoria Falls – Livingstone – Lower Zambezi National Park

After 3days of exploring Victoria Falls, your final stop on this Southern Africa “sejour” takes you Zambia’s Zambezi Grande, your home for the following 4 Nights – (direct flight To/From Zambezi Grande are on Tuesdays & Saturdays only and from 1st May – 31st October).

Zambezi Grande is situated on a prime sector of the Zambezi River front, near the Lower Zambezi National Park, offering visitors an unforgettable personal retreat, with all the sumptuous indulgences a discerning guest would appreciate from the comfort of an opulent, 5-star sanctuary in the heart of Africa. This upmarket lodge invites you to explore the hidden treasures of an untamed, unfenced and unspoilt nature. Enjoy relaxation and raw African beauty at its finest while drinking a cup of tea or coffee on your veranda watching the sun rises on the opposite side of the river – on the Zimbabwean side – and shines right onto the patios of your room at Zambezi Grande.

It reflects on the water and there is no way that the beauty of it could ever be captured on camera.

The lodge offers a wide variety of land and water-based safari activities and guests travelling to Zambezi Grande will be treated to 4 x 4 Game Drives, River Safaris, Sundowner cruises, Tiger fishing,

as well as Cultural village visit to get an insight in the lifestyle of the Muguramano tribe.

During the 4 x 4 game drives, expect to see herds of elephant, some lions, wild dog, leopard, hippos, buffalo, zebra and different types of antelope. The river safaris are not short of surprises as it is very common to see Hippo breaching just meters away from your boat, herds of Elephant crossing from island to island ahead of you, and majestic Lions enjoying a refreshing drink after a day lounging in the hot African sun…. Sundowner cruises are a superb way to relax and enjoy the spectacular beauty of the Zambezi River and offer great photo opportunities against often-spectacular African sunsets.

Tiger fishing is another activity enjoyed by Zambezi Grand guests and does not require one to be a professional fisherman. Bird lovers are also rewarded during water activities as the riverbanks are also home to many bird species and flocks of birds skim the waterline, the wildlife viewing complimenting your fishing excursions. In between the daily activities spoil yourself with relaxing and nurturing body therapy designed to alleviate stress and sooth tired or tight muscles, leaving you feeling revitalised and refreshed.

Day 14 Departure

After your last morning activity followed by breakfast, it is time to bid farewell to the lodge team before being transferred to the Royal Zambezi Airstrip to connect with your direct flight to Livingstone Airport for onward private arrangements.
